Want to know the origin of your mixed-breed dog? The English company Blackdog offers a DNA test to identify the ancestry of your mixed-breed pet – or as veterinarians would say, a non-purebred dog. The service starts at R$ 432 (£65).

The test results, which can be done at home, are sent to customers within 21 days from the receipt of the sample. According to the company, the test is capable of matching the DNA of approximately 99% of the samples in the Wisdom Health database, which includes over 185 dog breeds.

Upon determining the breed mix of the mixed-breed dog, Blackdog provides customers with a personalized behavior profile for the animal. This way, owners will be able to understand the needs of each pet and give mixed-breed dogs the chance for a happier life.

“Dog behavior is my passion. Having a happy and well-behaved dog in your home is an experience that can improve your life. If you take the time to get to know your dog and discover what makes them happy, your efforts will be rewarded,” says the founder of Blackdog.

For every DNA test kit purchased to determine the origin of a mixed-breed dog, the British company promises to donate £1 (R$6.64) to Hounds for Heroes, a charity that provides trained dogs to assist people with disabilities, ranging from emergency services to support for war veterans.
